Beer #60 Special Holiday Ale

Nøgne Ø Special Holiday Ale in collaboration with Jolly Pumpkin & Stone Brewing

Name:  Special Holiday Ale

Style:   Winter Warmer

Brewery: Nøgne Ø & Jolly Pumpkin Artisan Ales & Stone Brewing Co.  website

Country: Norway

Region:  Grimstad

ABV: 8.50%

How served: 500ml capped bottle poured into a La Mère Noël glass.

My Overall Opinion: Good.

I paired this beer with: a NY Giant blow-out win over the Washington Redskins on MNF!!

Tasted on: Monday December 21, 2009.

Note: This was brewed only once.  It was bottled and brewed by Nøgne Ø.    This was their 2nd collaboration of these 3 brewers on a holiday ale.   I really tried to like this beer, but it was just a tad bit over spiced for my taste buds.   If you like juniper berries, well then you would love this beer.

On their label: This is the second release of Special Holiday Ale, which was first brewed in San Diego in 2008.  Each brew is following the same recipe, including Michigan chestnuts, white sage from southern California and Norwegian juniper berries, but differences in brewing and aging practices produce different beers. Cheers to being different!  Skål!

This is one of my “bonus” christmas beers.  Cheers!!!!!

  1. We drank this beer on Christmas eve. One of several that night. I thoroughly enjoyed it. 5 glasses rating! Mike, I’m a gin guy, so you are correct, the juniper berries are prominent. You can taste the sage, and the chestnuts as well. I wish I could find more!!
