Beer #118 110K + OT Batch #3 (The Other West Coast IPA)

Cigar City 110K + OT Batch #3 (The Other West Coast IPA)

Name:  110K + OT Batch #3 (The Other West Coast IPA)

Style:  Imperial IPA

Brewery: Cigar City Brewing website

Country:  USA

Region:  Tampa Bay, Florida

ABV: 10.0% Abv

How served: 750ml capped bottle poured into an older Cigar City snifter.

My Overall Opinion: Very Good.

I paired this beer with:  Spicy hard salami and Gruyere cheese.  This was a pairing which really didn’t enhance either the salami, cheese or the beer.  I would pass on this combo in the future.

Tasted on:  Monday June 7th, 2010.

Note:    This beer poured with a thin head which formed after the pour and dissipated quickly, while leaving a nice lacing on the glass.   The nose of this beer is not what you might expect from an Imperial IPA, it has a sweet smell which reminded me a little of Dogfish Head’s 120 IPA.  The taste matched the nose, as it was of sweet nectar.  The mouthful was thick and syrupy with very little carbonation.  If I didn’t see the name, “the other west coast IPA”, I would have thought I was drinking an English Barleywine.   This beer definitely improved as it warmed in the glass.  This beer is NOT for the faint of heart or palate.  It is a great sipping beer and I’m looking forward to see if this one ages like a Barleywine too.  Be-warned if you try this one, as it is not for everyone, as it requires an acquired taste.   As it says on the label, this is not for the sissy boy nor girl.

On the Label:  110K + OT is not for the college pukes, white collar sissy boys or namby-pamby Nancy boys who haven’t done an honest days work in their lives.  Nor is this beer for the common man.  This beer is for the working man who has arrived.  If your working boots are steel toed, come back when they are gold toed!  110K + OT is for the working man with a taste for the finer things in life and the curiously structured salary that allows him to obtain them.  In fact, if you are reading this and have ever attended college you should probably just put this beer back on the shelf for the real man to buy.  110K + OT varies from year to year, but will always be a brash-bending brew that pairs well with sweat, clenched knuckles and over the top bravado.
